Bird friends we've lost
Losing birds to old age or illness is the sad side of working with these splendid feathered friends, but we are committed to seeing them all through the good times and the tough times.
Here we'll aim to honor and remember those we've lost.

Rusty - Moluccan/ Umbrella Cockatoo
Unknown date to June 19, 2023 We lost Rusty on June 19, 2023. His memorial write-up is a work in progress. Placing his photo and parrot profile here in the meantime. Rusty is a bit of a mystery chicken in that we don't know their age or gender. We do 100% know that Rusty is a certifiable escape artist. And once Rusty is out...hide your lamps, hide your baseboards, hide your everything! That beak is strong! But is Rusty also a total sweetpea? Yep. Rusty is another WPR rescue and very prone to prolapse. Through meds, close monitoring, plenty of play time, and excellent medical care, we show our love to Rusty. |
Monty - Princess of Wales Parakeet
Unknown date to April 2023 We lost Monty in April 2023. His memorial write-up is a work in progress. Placing his photo and parrot profile here in the meantime. We can't say enough nice things about Monty. Look at that face! Like Casey, Monty spent many years charming tourists at the Bloedel Conservatory. We suspect that this is where he fell madly in love with Casey. Monty isn't going to let something like being another species, or being a lot smaller, get in the way of his adoration of his best girl. The only thing he might love more is millet. Monty is about 30 years old and battles both enteritis and heart disease. He takes meds for both issues and lives in an adapted cage to prevent injury. |
Ari - Kakariki
Unknown date to March 2023 We lost Ari in March 2023. Her memorial write-up is a work in progress. Placing her photo and parrot profile here in the meantime. Feisty little Ari is about 10 years of age. Ari is a bit unsteady on their feet due to a poorly healed sprain. Due to these mobility issues, Ari lives in an adapted cage to reduce the chances of a stumble or fall. Ari is given two types of medications daily. Ari doesn't let their issues dampen their spirits, and will fiercely defend their food and water dishes at cleaning time. |
