We predominantly serve birds that require the high degree of medical care that The Nest can provide. Occasionally we care for birds that could be better be served in a forever home environment. ​

NON-NEST BIRD SEEKING NEW HOME - PRIVATE ADOPTION
Owners who can acknowledge when they are no longer in a position to provide their bird all that their bird needs, are some of the strongest and most good-hearted people we know. Even looking into rehoming options can be heartbreaking and daunting.

As bird “parents” ourselves, we need to remember we are all doing our best, and there is no shame in trying to give your bird a happier future, even if that is with someone else.

The Nest is not in a position to take in any new birds right now, but we are happy to use our little voice to try to help special local birds like Zuess get a new place to call home. 

​Here’s what we know about this gorgeous macaw:
  • He has been in one home the past 25 years
  • ​His age is unknown beyond being at least 25, and his vet suspects he is quite a lot older
  • He is a good eater of fruit, veggies, and Mazuri pellets
  • He has regular vet visits and is in good health
  • Zuess has been the only bird in his home, but has met other birds and responded well
  • He came to his current home previously injured/ partial wing amputation, unknown how or when it happened
  • Does not fly due to his wing issue
  • Zuess does not currently live in a cage but on a home-made PVC jungle gym (lucky guy)
  • Loves music and shredding things and being misted
​If you think you can be a fresh start for this guy and would like more information or to be considered, please meet the following minimum criteria and then reach out by call or text to 604-807-1829.
  1. Reside in B.C.
  2. Have experience with macaws.
  3. Have the budget to take Zuess for regular vet appointments.
  4. Have the budget or resources to get Zuess set up with a safe space to hang out and/ or a large cage, as well as a suitably sized travel cage for vet appointments.
  5. Agree to never breed him.
  6. Agree to a trial period and to contact his current owner if your situation changes.​

If a bird does become available for adoption from The Nest, this is our adoption policy:
  • We do not adopt birds out as gifts for another person.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt.
  • We do not place birds in breeding situations or adopt to breeders.
  • We do not allow any birds that have come under our care at any time to ever be sold, traded, given away, bred or used for any monetary purpose throughout their lifetime.
  • In order to adopt a bird from "The Nest" you must agree to return the bird to us, at no cost, if you cannot keep the bird for any reason.
  • We reserve the right to withdraw from the adoption process at any time with any applicant.
  • The most important part of our adoption process is that you must spend time with the bird to make sure it is a good fit for both of you.
  • We require you to visit the bird on numerous occasions so that you can get a sense of the bird on good days and bad days. During these visits, you will interact with the bird, play with the bird, move the bird in and out of its cage, as well as feed the bird and clean it's cage. ​These visits are mandatory and they are a requirement for adoption.
